Are you seeking encouragement for your journey? Do you long to stop going in circles and to finally hear God’s voice and be consistent with his plan? Are you tired of stopping and starting again? Do you long to journey with others who just get it? No worries, sis. I’ve got you. Welcome to Embracing the Journey with Shell Odum where you will learn personal, profressional & spiritual growth tools through Biblical teachings, so you can transform your thinking and move forward - partnered with God every step of the way. Hi, I’m Shell - disciple of Christ, wife, Christian life coach and organizational consultant. Through the years I’ve tried really hard to find a linear path to follow that leads to fulfillment. What I’ve learned is that the journey is often taken on a windy road and that’s okay. As I learn to accept God’s invitation into intimacy he leads me into the life that I’ve always wanted! After experiencing divorce I finally stopped trying to finish a checklist and started seeking God for each next step according to his will. I went on a path of self-discovery, personal growth, with a ton of prayer and God’s grace along the way. I discovered how to partner with God to completely transform my life and relationships from the inside out, and I can’t wait to share what I’ve learned with you! If you’re ready to stop the self-sabotage keeping you stuck, learn proven strategies for personal growth, and discover an intimate and sustaining relationship with God that will help you move forward emotionally, professionally, and spiritually - this podcast is for you. Grab your journal. It’s time to get to work sis.

Boundaries and control. Control and boundaries. Chile. Those are two words that just carry so much weight and tension. When is control healthy? When is it unhealthy? Why do boundaries seem to offend people? Am I the bad person for setting the boundary? And on and on it goes. Well let me tell you something. Your girl know a little some some about control okay and this chapter was packed with just so much goodness that I wanted to just read the chapter to yall on today's episode because it was SO good but I'm not going to do that. I am excited though for this conversation so let's get into it!

Sis, have you checked on your canary? If you haven't yet read chapter 7 of Forgiving What You Can't Forget you're probably like Shell what in the world are you talking about? Lol. Well in short at the beginning of this chapter Lysa tells us about how British coal miners would use canaries as an indicator of whether or not they're environment was toxic. So I ask again...have you checked on your canary? Are there indicators that you're environment might be toxic? Let's get into it.

Do you understand the importance of tracing your steps? As we seek to move forward in healing and move past situatons in our levels we must do what Lysa calls "collect the dots" We must do the heart work of going back and picking up the dots that inform the situation we've currently found ourselves in. It's not easy. It can so certainly be painful. AND it's absolutely necessary.  This is what we're going to be diving into in today's episode as we chat about chapter 5 of Forgiving What You Can't Forget by Lysa Terkeurst. We get a sneak peek into her own story and through that are helped and encouraged to use her story as encouragement to start to write our own. Let's dive in.

This chapter had SO many good nuggets!! In this episode we are exploring chapter 4 of Forgiving What You Can't Forget. In this chapter Lysa talks about separating your healing from people and their choices and provides two concrete Biblical examples of this and let me tell you they are GOOD! These passages are found in John 5 and John 9 and help us to see that all we need to do is decide to partner with Jesus. Let's listen in!
